![]() I'd read disabling would not be sufficient. I deleted some drivers that I was under the impression would not permit new ones to install. My next step was to boot into safe mode and stop Windows installing its local drivers, which I did by disabling some options in something on the control panel. ![]() I repeated the previous steps again but did not boot into normal mode. The operation told me it had completed successfully.īooting in regular mode caused Windows 7 to install local drivers and these interfered with the motherboard and put the computer in a state such that it could not be booted. Then I booted into Mini XP off the Hiren's and started FixHDC, chose my target as C:\Windows, and allowed it do what it's meant to do (which if you don't know, is to remove all drivers and to replace them with the generic ones from Windows). This is because XP doesn't recognise AHCI or RAID drives, if I recall, so I rebooted into the BIOS and changed the HDD to IDE. Then I noted my hard drive wasn't turning up. I downloaded Hiren's BootCD and used it on the new PC. Then Windows wouldn't boot, as you may expect. I told it to restore from a system image, which it did. The next step was to boot off the Windows 7 recovery disc. I thought the whole purpose was restoring to similar or dissimilar hardware with ease, but it seems I was wrong doesn't it. Larry, I made a system image of the Dell.
